Diacool Ice diamond instruments for sintered zirconia and lithium disilicate

Diamond Performance Engineered for Full-Sinter Ceramics

Fully sintered zirconia and lithium disilicate are among the hardest materials in modern
restorative dentistry. Conventional finishing instruments generate excessive heat, create
surface defects, and wear rapidly. Diacool Ice addresses all three problems with a
diamond-bonded abrasive matrix and a coolant-channel geometry that actively draws air
and water through the cutting zone.

  • Diamond-bonded abrasive matrix for cutting efficiency on hardened ceramics
  • Coolant-channel geometry actively reduces heat buildup in the cutting zone
  • Removes post-milling surface marks and residual surface defects
  • Produces a refined surface ready for the final polishing step
  • ISO color-coded grit system for easy instrument identification
  • Consistent diamond concentration across the full instrument life

Compatible Materials

  • Sintered zirconia (3Y, 4Y, 5Y mono and multi-layer)
  • Lithium disilicate (IPS e.max CAD, e.max Press)
  • Leucite-reinforced ceramic (IPS Empress)

Speed Recommendation

100,000–200,000 RPM with continuous air/water coolant

Exceeding the recommended speed range without adequate coolant may cause surface
micro-cracking in lithium disilicate. Always use adequate air/water spray.

Grit System — ISO Color Coding

Grit Grade ISO Color Typical Use
Coarse Red Initial reduction, gross material removal
Medium Blue Contouring, milling mark removal
Fine Yellow Surface refinement, pre-polish prep
Extra Fine White Surface smoothing before polishing
Super Fine Light Blue Final surface preparation, high-gloss pre-stage

Finishing Sintered Ceramics Step by Step

Follow the Diacool Ice grit sequence for predictable surface quality. Each step
removes the scratch pattern from the previous instrument before moving forward.

Step 1 — Red (Coarse)

Initial Reduction

Address occlusal contacts, reduce high spots, and establish gross contour after milling.

Step 2 — Blue (Medium)

Contouring

Refine anatomy, remove milling marks and tool path lines from CAD/CAM processing.

Step 3 — Yellow (Fine)

Surface Refinement

Smooth the surface uniformly. Eliminate the coarse scratch pattern from the blue instrument.

Step 4 — White (Extra Fine)

Pre-Polish

Create a uniform, scratch-free surface. The restoration is ready for polishing compounds.

Step 5 — Lt. Blue (Super Fine)

Final Surface Prep

Achieve a near-gloss surface. Proceed to Panther polishing system for mirror finish.
